Northumbria Primary Care (NPC) is pleased to announce that Nelson Medical Group, a North Shields based GP practice, has joined the organisation.
Having served the North Shields population for over 40 years, 86% of its 5000 patients described their overall experience as ‘good’ during the recent 2022 GP Survey, which is above both the regional and national average.
With the general practice landscape ever-changing, Nelson Medical Group saw an opportunity to join the at-scale primary care provider to ensure they continue to provide the best possible care for their population.
Established in 2015, NPC now works in partnership with nine practices across Northumberland and North Tyneside.
GP practices that join the organisation benefit from a number of business functions required to run a GP practice. This support is provided by specialist members of the NPC team and allows practice teams to focus their time and effort on delivering patient care.
Dr William Tufton, who has been a GP at Nelson Medical Group for 16 years, said:
“We’re really pleased with our decision to join Northumbria Primary Care as it is a great opportunity for the practice to strengthen our offer to patients and gives us access to a team that has a wealth of knowledge and expertise. Having their support to provide some of the non-clinical services means that we can focus more of our team to delivering and improving patient care. We have enjoyed working with the NPC team so far and we look forward to what the future holds for Nelson Medical Group and what we can achieve with NPC.”
Patients of Nelson Medical Group will not see any change in the practice’s identity, or the way that they currently access services. Nor do patients need to do anything.
David Hedgcock, Northumbria Primary Care’s Managing Director, said:
“We are very pleased that Nelson Medical Group has decided to join us. They’re a great team and have a positive approach and attitude to provide patients with high quality care. NPC works with several GP practices in North Tyneside, so we’re very familiar with the primary care landscape in the area. Due to the partnerships we have and continue to build and our expertise in many different areas, we believe that we’ll be able to help Nelson Medical Group further improve patient care and experience.
“Should there be other likeminded practices planning for the future and wish to understand more about how working with NPC could support their aspirations please do get in touch.” As of April 2022 the organisation became one of 11 local Primary Care Networks and provides collaborative support services to non-NPC practices and Primary Care Networks that care for more than 200,000 patients.
